Note: American politics didn’t interest me until roughly five years ago when I read Katherine Stewart’s book The Power Worshippers. I grew up in an evangelical family in New Zealand in the 1970s and was appalled to learn about American evangelical obsession with power and politics. Katherine Stewart’s researched the US Religious Right for around 17 years and what she’s learned sheds so much light on what we’re seeing unfold now in America.
